President's Report A short report from me this month after a holiday to the ‘tip’ of Cape York.
Below in the eNews there is an update about Hornsby Council wanting to
use some State Rail land behind the tennis courts for the proposed
cycleway. I sense the real issue may not simply be about the use of the
thin sliver of land but instead be a potential conflict between the
access by State Rail to the tracks and cyclists riding near to the
access gate. I have asked Councillor Verity Greenwood to clarify
this with Hornsby Council staff who have met with State Rail.
Personally, after riding my bike around other cycleways in Sydney, I
consider re-routing the cycleway onto Beecroft Rd for a short distance
is a minor issue.
The real issue is lobbying for traffic lights at Kirkham St and Monica is giving this her full attention
What the Civic Trust did in May / June 2026 The Trust has updated the exhibition in the Plaza window with a current Police report.
For
some the Trust has been advocating for the completion of the bike path
between Beecroft and Cheltenham. More particularly the removal of
the pinch point between the tennis courts and the rail network
property. Through Monica Tudehope we have recently received the
following reply. "Sydney Trains does not support the proposal due
to operational and safety concerns and have come to the conclusion after
considering alternative options with Hornsby Shire Council that these
are not feasible."
Through Monica Tudehope's office, the Trust is still strongly advocating
for traffic lights to be installed at the intersection of Beecroft Rd
and Kirkham St. The Trust will continue to pursue this course of
action.
An application for a Community Building Partnership grant was submitted
to the NSW Government for a walking track to link Lane Cove National
Park and Chilworth Reserve.
The Trust has been responding to a number of resident's concerns
relating to possible unauthorised works. A recent example related to
advertising signs and another with significant works on a battle axe
lot. Our councils' staff cannot be everywhere and tend to rely on
residents’ queries. If you have concerns about a resident carrying out
possible unauthorised works, contact the Trust and we can contact the
relevant council. That way, resident conflict can be avoided. We do not
mention any names and that way you remain anonymous.
